Dear colleagues the first WAIMH congress to be held in Germany in Leipzig is nearing with the central theme of  “Infancy in Times of Transition”.  In this flyer we introduce one of the plenary speakers we have in the next WAIMH Congress in Leipzig 2010. The first plenary of the congress will be given by Professor Kai von Klitzing. His lecture is titled Infants in times of transition. Kai von Klitzing, MD, is professor and Chair of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Leipzig, Germany; also trained in pediatrics, adult and child psychiatry, member of the Swiss Psychoanalytic Society and the German Psychoanalytic Association, and training psychoanalyst (IPA). He is a member of the Board of WAIMH since 2004, and the host of the 2010 WAIMH congress in Leipzig. In years 1989 – 1997 /1999 – 2006 he worked as the Professor of Child Psychiatry in the University of Basel, Switzerland. His research projects included several longitudinal studies on the transition to parenthood, the role of fathers, and early family development (with Dieter Bürgin). During 1998 /1999 he was involved in studies on preschoolers’ narratives and behavioral genetics in the University of Colorado with Robert N. Emde. Since 2006 he has led in studies on preschoolers’ mental health, neuro- endocrinology, and early intervention at the University of Leipzig.  His clinical innovations include interdisciplinary treatment program for infants with regulatory disorders, liaison service at the NICU of the children’s hospital, a psychotherapeutic program for preschoolers, a home visitation program in the state of Saxony, and a treatment program for children of somatically sick parents. He has written clinical and empirical papers in German, French and English (e.g. two papers on the role of fathers and triadic development in the Infant Mental Health Journal), books on immigrant children, psychotherapy in (early) childhood, and attachment disorder.
